No, probably not. This means that you will have backup power in the form of batteries. These batteries will mostly charge from the solar panels only. There might be times where you use Eskom, but this should be hugely reduced.
During the installation we will split the loads in your home between Essential and Non-Essential at your distribution board (DB).
Essential loads are those that you want to keep going even during a power outage. Things such as plugs and lights.
Non-Essential loads are those that you can do without when there is a power outage. Normally these are high usage items such as geysers, stoves, ovens and air-conditioners.
Yes, you can go completely off the grid, however this is generally very impractical from a financial point of view.
To go completely off the grid you need to allow enough power for all loads for approximately 3 days. This is required in case there is bad weather and your system is not able to charge fully for a number of days.
The most practical alternative to going completely off the grid is to use Eskom as your backup power. Install enough battery backup to get you through 1 day and use Eskom only during bad weather.
If you have no space for solar panels on your roof or you live in an apartment, we can install a backup system. This will include the inverter and batteries, but not the solar panels. The backup system will charge from Eskom and give you backup power when you have a power outage.
